Zkano founder Gina Locklear was born in Fort Payne, Alabama, also known as The Sock Capital of the World! It may be hard to believe, but until the late 1990s, a large percentage of socks were manufactured in her quaint hometown of 14,000. Although outsourcing depleted Fort Payne's rich textile tradition over time, that didn't phase Gina's father, who made a long-standing dream a reality when he founded his own sock manufacturing company in 1990, Emi-G Knitting. The company is based in Fort Payne and named after Gina and her sister.
Gina shares her father's passion for sock making, along with her own interest in eco-conscious living. Founding Zkano, her own organic cotton sock company, proved the perfect way to incorporate this eco commitment into the family business. Today, all Zkano socks are made in Fort Payne with organic GOTS-certified cotton and low-impact dyes. Gina is proud to continue her family's-and her hometown's-sock making tradition, delivering socks that are high quality, super comfy, and made right here in the U.S.A.
