Never underestimate the power of a name. While Erika had all the chops she needed to be a Maker, she wasn’t set on starting her business. When her boyfriend suggested the name Yellow Wallpaper (after her favorite short story), she was ready. “Once I had the name, it fueled my fire,” she says. “I got my papers in order and started doing small craft shows around town.” She was raised in a big DIY family, and her mom taught her to sew. Soon enough, she was pulling old bags apart to figure out how they were made; taking courses in college to hone her construction skills; and creating her own line of minimal and structural pieces. When she’s not crafting, you can often find her flipping through magazines or driving up the California coast.
