A BRIKA maker story

Jackie & Lauren

"We believe that anything is possible if you work hard and have fun."
“There are a lot of discussions about what looks cool and fresh.”

“Handmade goods come from the heart you can see personalities come from the individual items.”

“I have an innate need to make things.”

“Handmade goods come from the heart you can see personalities come from the individual items.”

Lauren and Jackie see every new Voz Collective piece as a blank canvas where shapes and color combinations can be pushed and pulled until accessory perfection begins to emerge. Their chalkboard wall and inspiration boards get a lot of action when a new design idea is taking shape — sketches, color swatches, magazine tear sheets and paint samples make up their creative mélange.

Voz Collective’s wooden accessories are all stained, masked, painted, unmasked and glossed by hand and with heart. While big box stores stock their shelves with mass-produced trinkets devoid of character, Lauren and Jackie work each of their pieces with the love and tender care of makers who wish to produce goods with personality.

Who inspires you to do the work that you do?
Lauren: "My friends and family and people I surround myself with."

What are people surprised to learn about you?
Jackie: "I decided to get a psychology degree instead of going to art school and had plans to become a social worker."
Lauren: "I'm super fast to react in emergencies."

What's your guiltiest pleasure?
Jackie: "My Little Pony episodes before bed and sour candies."
Lauren: "Chocolate anything and everything."

“The design process is all about trying things out and seeing what sticks.”
