“I carefully select high quality natural plant oils and organic shea butter to make my soap.”
AYU Carlton is a self-proclaimed soap nerd. She loves nothing more than to learn about different soap-making methods, and to read traditional books about the process. It all started when this LA-based Maker wanted to find a way to treat her super sensitive skin; she began testing various soaps, eventually creating her own line, Tokyo Factory.
First, she carefully selects natural plant oils, combining them with organic shea butter and therapeutic essential oils to give her soaps a gentle and relaxing scent. She develops each bar using the cold-process method, whereby the soap is cured for at least four weeks. “It may sound like a long time,” she says, “but it’s worth it!”
