TORONTO, ONTARIO
""

For Toronto’s Natalie Gluic, scent has always been a huge trigger for memory. “When I smell onions sautéeing in a pan, it reminds me of when my mother made pasta sauce from scratch,” she says, “When I smell sweet sage leaves, it reminds me of visiting the hills of Croatia as a teenager.” With Smells Like Canada, Natalie has linked the emotional connection of scent to cities and spaces across Canada. Every product is made on her stovetop in Parkdale (an art-filled neighbourhood in Toronto), which begins by double-boiling EcoSoy wax until it is completely dissolved. Once cooled, she pours it into a pre-warmed jar, adds a lead-free wick, and leaves it overnight. She then applies a perfect cherry-wood veneer label: “And you got yourself a fancy new candle!”
