Meet The Face Behind

A BRIKA maker story

Sandra Dumais

"Everything I make is an effort to capture a funny or tender moment in time—a special place, event or story that I want to tell. It’s my way of holding onto the things that make me happy!"
"I have been making things ever since I can remember. "

"I am constantly learning new things. "

"Continuing to do art throughout has kept me connected to myself while raising young kids."

"I am constantly learning new things. "

An artist, illustrator and self-professed “giant kid,” Sandra Dumais’ line of watercolor prints speaks to the dreamers, free spirits and the young at heart. After co-founding a curated, handmade show that specializes in design for kids, she began screen printing images of the animals she drew onto children’s clothing. With a one-year course in Print Media as her only formal training, Sandra’s process involves drawing on paper with ink, Sharpies and watercolors. “I really love creating textures with different materials digitally and always overlay these into my images,” she says.

The Montreal-by-way-of-Toronto artist cites a lifelong obsession with French, as such, her works are available in both languages (or a mix of both!). Inspired by her own childhood, her children and the funny, tender world in which we live, Moon & Sparrow’s beautiful and whimsical imagery inspire both silliness and wonder.

I believe...

That there is a touching and funny story in everything.

I love it when...

I am able to sleep all night (rare).

Words I live by are...

Fill your day with things and people that make you happy.

"I am inspired by soft palettes, funny people and the need to capture sweet moments.
