“When I’m at my bench my ideas come to life.”
“I like making pieces that are wearable and functional -- less is more.”
Why is making handmade goods important to you?
Handmade goods represent the love, care and attention put into making them. There is a certain look that you just can’t achieve with mass produced goods.
Walk me through your production/design process.
Usually I will see something that inspires me (architecture, nature, patterns, to name a few) and come up with a rough idea. I will sketch out a few drawings, and then go into the studio and make them come to life. I work best when I can manipulate metal and materials in my hands, so when I’m at my bench, my ideas come to life. After I have a prototype, I will source the appropriate metals, and begin to make a set of instructions on how to make that piece for my makers.
What did you want to be when you grew up? Why?
I wanted to be a shop-owner of lifestyle or fashion goods and envisioned myself running a curated gift shop. I’ve always loved little trinkets and gadgets, and the small details in life.
