Meet The Face Behind

A BRIKA maker story

Ellen Bennett

"Be in that moment when you are doing what you are doing."
“I love it when I imagine something in my head and then I see it happening.”

“I hand pick fabrics we test wash them and make sure the fabric is super durable and able to be put through the ringer.”

“Don't be worried about what could happen; focus on what is happening right now.”

It’s been said that if you can’t stand the heat, you should get out of the kitchen. No worries for Ellen Bennett, then — she’s handling the heat of being a maker and successfully living out her lifelong dream not by chopping veggies or grilling steaks, but by designing aprons that are durable and, of course, look great.

Like those who’ll wear her designs, she’s all about quality control (every single apron her company produces is carefully inspected) and she knows the kitchen can be a great venue for creative expression. Plenty of trips to the Home Depot, inspiration from committed chefs and a spirit of adventure have proven to be Ellen’s recipe for success.

What’s your guiltiest pleasure?

Walking around barefoot.

Who inspires you to do the work that you do?

My chefs. Michael Cimarusti from Providence and Joseph Senteno from Baco Marcat.

What is your design background?

A whole lot of trips to Home Depot. That's always been my favorite store since I was a little girl. I'd rather go there than clothes shopping.

What are your tips for how to start a project?

Just start. Don't over analyze or overthink it too much because you'll only create your own mental stops. Grab the first step and do it.

“I knew that I wanted to do something with cooking but I knew I didn't want to be a cook for the rest of my life. I think I found my jam.”
