“Follow your heart, but take your head with you.”

“I believe in fun over formality, passion about our own stories and finding true beauty in imperfection.”

“I’m beyond grateful to be able to capture moments of people’s personal histories or to create quirky animal prints that might end up being passed down through a family. ”

Gooseberry Studios started after Laura was laid off from her 9-5 job in publishing. She spent many months searching for a new job without any luck, and was facing the possibility of relocating for employment. The problem was, she had fallen in love with Toronto and didn’t want to leave, so decided to take her "freelance side hustle' that she had been operating since university and attempt to turn it into a full time gig. With a lot of hard work and determination (and just as many doubts, let’s be perfectly honest), she was able to launch her studio and is now happily creating for a living.

"A couple of years into the studio, I wanted to have a project where I created images just for me. Animals have always been important to me, as has art, so I combined the two to create Gooseberry Prints, a lively little online shop that creates limited-edition fine art prints of mostly rescued animals in storybook settings for the modern home."

Why is making Handmade goods important to you?

My love of handmade goods stems from my grandmother, who showered me with things she made throughout my life. Every gift she ever gave meant that much more because I knew she took time to make it with her own hands. Knowing that somebody has spent time, as well as their talent, making something for you, transforms the final item into something priceless and far more sentimental.

“I have in-depth conversations with the owners/rescue workers to work with the animals comfort level, as I never wish to stress or unnerve a furry photo subject.”
