“I love it when I can spend a whole Sunday making dinner.”
“Less but better are words I live by.”
Initially handmade was important to me because I love to do it. I get so much joy from getting lost in the rhythm of working with my hands. I also recognize from it's so important to stay connected to how objects are made, value the labor that goes into producting them, and support quality over quantity.
Who or what inspires you to do the work that you do? Why?
Successful businesswomen. I have so much admiration for women who run their own business, because it's not easy.
Tell us about a challenge you've had and how it has affected your work.
When I started Fitzy I had ZERO business training. I had avoided business classes my whole life. So when I first had to start thinking about bookkeeping, marketing, inventory, and all that other fun stuff I was shocked by how much time the business side took away from designing and making. In the two years since I started Fitzy, I've learned a ton about the business side of things, and am working on learning new things all the time. It's given me so much respect for anyone who makes a living running their own small business.
