While working at a large architecture company leading retail, entertainment and hospitality design projects, Carolina Tombolesi was tasked with handcrafting a porcelain espresso set from washable hide coasters. It was during this challenge that she discovered a unique, leather-like fabric made from recycled paper that could be molded and shaped with water. “I was so amazed by the clean look and diverse uses for the reclaimed material, I needed to get my hands wet – literally,” she said. This one-of-a-kind material would then become the foundation for Urban Sacs, both in its function, form and commitment to sustainability. Each sac is made of washable paper made through a process of cultivation, not deforestation, and handmade by a local craftsman.
