“Call me a perfectionist, but I like to make sure everything that goes out the door to a customer is 100% perfect.”
After 13 years at an ad agency as a web designer, Ryan McArthur grew tired of the long hours and was no longer finding the creative output he needed from his career. Yearning for the desire to go back to his print roots and keep things simple – and far away from the programming, wire-framing and website debugging that had become his job MO – he decided to start selling his prints through the launch of his own business, Design Different.
From the printing to custom packaging and designs themselves, “Every item that I put out there is touched by me in some way,” Ryan says. “Call me a perfectionist, but I like to make sure everything that goes out the door to a customer is 100% perfect.” Citing the starting point for his process as a great quote, he then fleshes out his designs on paper (“I was always taught to think on paper, not in my head,”) before taking the graphics to Photoshop to tweak colors and then eventually print. Citing the need to share his art as the inspiration for his designs, the world is certainly more beautiful with Design Different in it.
