“I can spend hours browsing fabric shops, I love how quiet and peaceful it is to be surrounded by beautiful textiles.”
“I have a very nostalgic streak and love prints that have a slight retro feel to them.”
Why is making handmade goods important to you?
First and foremost, I am drawn to the uniqueness of handmade goods. I love that I am making apparel that my customers can’t find anywhere else. My clothes are cheeky, they have a personality, and I know it takes a certain type of person to purchase them.
What’s the inspiration behind your design?
I only make clothes that I would put my children in. I secretly dress them like how I would like to dress myself. I am drawn to bright, bold, graphic designs and colors that make me smile. I have a very nostalgic streak and love prints that have a slight retro feel to them.
Walk me through your production/design process
My production/design process is ever changing, mainly because my hands can’t keep up with my brain. I find fabric inspiration everywhere – a poster on the subway, a little sketch on a toy, the ice-cream truck driving past us at the park. I keep a notebook on me and I have an ongoing list of designs that I want to explore. My production/design process can be broken down into 3 areas: fabric design, patterns and sewing.
