Meet The Face Behind

BABY JIVES

A BRIKA maker story

Jahje Ives

BALA CYNWYD, PA
"Create what you want to see in the world."
“I have always loved making things its just part of who I am.”

“The things I cherish most are those that are imperfect and have a real sense of the person who made them.”

“When I bring my kids into my studio, they always smile and reach for my mobiles.”

“The things I cherish most are those that are imperfect and have a real sense of the person who made them.”

When Jahje Ives was growing up, the family’s kitchen table was filled with her parents’ art projects; these days, it’s her studio that’s bursting with ideas and sketches. Indeed, making things has always been a part of who she is — so it’s fitting that her first child and her company, Baby Jives, were born at almost the same time.

She gets as much sleep as you’d expect, juggling two young children and a business — but even when the kids’ energy leaves her exhausted, their excitement at her work gives her the motivation to keep creating authentic items she hopes will stand the test of time.

What’s one of your favorite websites?
The one website that I look at daily is Decor8. I love Holly Becker's touch and admire how she always seems to mix feminine, modern and vintage so well.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
An artist or a lawyer. I thought being an artist might not be practical enough and I was always good at talking my way out of situations. I still win most of my arguments — like the one I had with myself about why I could finally choose artist as a career!

What’s your guiltiest pleasure?
Hiding in the bathroom to check on Instagram and Twitter. Seriously, it's the only way I can get alone time between the hours of 7 am and 8 pm.

“My grandmother was a quilter, my mother was a painter, my father studied architecture and my kitchen table was/is always littered with art projects.”
