UPPERCASE is a quarterly print magazine for the creative and curious with content inspired by design, illustration, type, craft and creativity. Through beautiful design and engaging profiles, readers are inspired by artists who have turned their craft into their career. Editor Janine Vangool highlights a BRIKA artist who is known for her vibrant prints.
Whether a subtle shade or vibrant value, color is the jumping-off point for creative exploration and personal expression. Color offers endless inspiration... and as designers, illustrators, artists and craftspeople, we all share this passion for pigment!
The summer issue of UPPERCASE magazine is art directed like a rainbow. Starting with red at the front and working its way to a violet conclusion, the artists and their work profiled were considered for the palette of work and how they’d fit in the magazine’s spectrum of inspiration. Shana Frase is a BRIKA artist whose work is driven by a love of colour. Using saturated and appealingly drippy watercolor, her work appears expressive and spontaneous. She asks visitors to her website “Whats your favourite color?” and in response presents them with a variety of swatches with which to navigate her work.
