This week, Jen and I were in NYC at STORY, an awesome retail-concept space that has the point of view of a magazine, changes like a gallery & sells things like a store. BRIKA was invited to be featured as part of their Made in America 2.0 story for the month of October (you can spot us in the photo above standing in front of BRIKA's signage, found front and center when you walked through the door!).
Our two-day trip was packed with one of our absolute favorite things to do: Meet BRIKA Makers face to face. We always come away feeling inspired and excited about continuing to build and strengthen BRIKA's creative community.[caption id="attachment_3147" align="aligncenter" width="448"] Nophar Haimovitz, Reason To Be Pretty[/caption]
We met Nophar from Reason To Be Pretty at STORY's pitch night with Cool Hunting. She raced across the shop towards Jen exclaiming "You're wearing my necklace!!" Jen was, in fact, wearing this gorgeous Reason To Be Pretty necklace.[caption id="attachment_3148" align="aligncenter" width="448"] Irene Wood, History & Industry[/caption]
We instantly recognized Irene from History & Industry by the gorgeous necklace she was wearing. We can't wait to launch her new collection inspired by famous Hollywood parties in the coming weeks.[caption id="attachment_3149" align="aligncenter" width="448"] Soledad Prano, Sol del Sur & Bethany Mallett, Ortolan[/caption]
It was so fantastic to see Soledad and Bethany's familiar faces. Both were early Makers on BRIKA, so they have a special place in our hearts! Their jewelry and textiles (respectively) are bestsellers. Soledad recently moved from LA to NY and Bethany is moving from NY to LA as we speak, so they were happy to exchange notes.[caption id="attachment_3150" align="aligncenter" width="448"] Andrea Bocchio[/caption]
The next day, I met Andrea Bocchio for a mid-morning coffee at Intelligentsia Coffee. She is so lovely and animated, I could have chatted with her for hours! Instead, I bought a necklace from her new holiday collection (coming soon to BRIKA), gave her a hug and set off to meet Michelle from GOLDhearted Jewelry for lunch.[caption id="attachment_3151" align="aligncenter" width="448"] Michelle Meronek, Goldhearted Jewelry[/caption]
Michelle and I have been working closely on a special project for Birchbox, so I was so happy to finally meet her in person. We had a lovely lunch at The Park right across from the High Line. The highlight? Her story about how she met her boyfriend. Let's just say it involves a vintage bike and Craigslist. :)Thanks to you all for continuing to inspire us every day! xo Kena + Jen
