Vanessa Correa knows what she likes. As the Creative Director of the University of California, a designer and blogger at vanessacorrea.com, it's her job to know what's cool, hip and happening. She thinks BRIKA should be on that list and tells us why in our first BRIKA Tastemaker blog post.
My BRIKA Crush
For quite some time, I’ve argued that it is important to know where the things around us come from. Who makes the thing you love? To include their story in the object is a sweet addition once the object becomes part of your daily story.
BRIKA curates the world of makers and is the missing connection between the thoughtful maker and buyer. Knowing that my new, gorgeous bracelet is made by Deborah Rice is one thing; seeing her thoughts, history and values on BRIKA’s site is another. I like supporting her vision as much as I like supporting her aesthetic. BRIKA is the bridge between us.
There aren’t many sites that put actual makers — people that is, not brands — front and center. Perusing the “makers” page quite simply makes me happy. People — people just like me — are making things they believe in, that they love.
BRIKA gives them a space to tell a story larger than the things they create. I like the connection between us. Because if I can connect with someone by supporting their dreams then my day and my community are a little bit stronger and better for it. BRIKA is the voice connecting people through the things they choose to give and buy….and love.xoxo Vanessa
