Announcing...the Newest Member of the BRIKA Blogging Family!

[caption id="attachment_410" align="aligncenter" width="253"] This is a teaser...anyone know who we're welcoming?[/caption] It’s a running joke in this office about how many blogs I regularly follow on my google reader. It's definitely north of 100 by now. It's the first thing I do in the morning, and more often than not, the last thing I do before I go to bed. I methodically read through my posts every day. My crazy type-A-ness loves the fact that I can scroll down and tick down on the number of posts I have remaining to read. “There are no unread items…” Ahhhhh, YES. Feels so good. I am kind of (ok, ok, it's more than kind of) obsessed with bloggers. They are like modern-day celebrities. Joanna, Emily, Naomi, Joy, Grace, Anh, Blair, Erin, CamilleVictoria, Jeanne...this list could go on forever. You know who you are. I am in awe that people out there can write anything they want, whenever they want and others listen — and I mean, really listen, to what they have to say. I feel like I have intimately gotten to know so many amazing individuals by reading about them and their lives (so many of them just look too perfect to be true)—the food they eat, what their kids wear, the fact that they have a cold and that they've used too many tissues. I have laughed out loud, cried and been crazy inspired. It feels like they're all the "cool kids" who hang out together, and I just want to be a part of the crowd. Please, can you let me in? We always knew that bloggers were going to be a big part of BRIKA. Kena has been a blogger for a while now (i.e. why she can write posts in the wink of an eye, and I tend to scrutinize over every single word — as an aside, a friend of mine wrote an awesome and witty post about being a freelance writer HERE. Blog posts = sprints. I am winded.) and knows the power of sharing with others first-hand. Together, we just firmly believed that we wanted to include individuals who we felt were completely and organically aligned in terms of our values and our vision and had a network of others to share their stories with. Now HOW we were going to do that remained a mystery. In my quest to add more bloggers to my google reader, I came across someone here in Toronto that I just loved. The more I read, the more I loved. And because I have a penchant for cold-emailing bloggers I really like (read blog post on how Kena and I met HERE), I wrote to her and asked if she’d give us some input on BRIKA and how we could work with bloggers like her. When we met in person at a coffee shop, I just had this overwhelming feeling that we had to somehow get her to become a part of what we’re building. NOW. So much of it stemmed from the fact that we want as many authentic, rich and real voices on our site as possible. She is all of these things and then some. Luckily, this lovely lady said yes. So very shortly, my friends, we will be unveiling a new member of our family who will be blogging for us right here. We hope she is the first of many. Drum roll please……
