When it comes to giving gifts to little ones, we stick to two stand-by's: handmade gifts (duh!), and BOOKS. We mined our creative maker community for their favorite books to give and read to little ones.
"My five year olds current favorite: Surfer Chick by Kristy Dempsey and everything Dr. Seuss. My seven year old boy loves Captain Underpants books by Dav Pilkey, and everything Maurice Sendak. I have introduced my eleven year old to the classics like Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, Through The Looking Glass, etc. Another book she just loves is the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. Reading to them as babies truly fostered this love of books. They equate care & creativity with the act of reading!" - Kiana Keiser-Mosley, Kiana Mosley
"My daughter Avery (7) is into the Little House On The Prairie books and my son Quinten (4) and I love all things Dr. Seuss, especially Go, Dog Go. We love the Little House on the Prairie books because she loves learning about history, nature and animals and I like the general moral that hard work, kindness and caring for others always prevails. Of course, Quinten loves the Dr. Seuss books because they are goofy and they make him laugh! I love the optimism and creativity." - Araya Jensen, Wind & Willow Home
"Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett is a favorite in our household. My kids love the colorful sweaters and the fact that Annabelle knits sweaters for all the houses too. (And I think it helps that they see me knitting all winter!). Big Sister, Little Sister by LeUyen Pham. It's a book about them, what's not to love. I love the precious, and quite accurate, depictions of the two sisters. Pippi Longstocking. They love Pippi, especially the part where she goes to the circus." - Anri, Stiched by Anri
"One of our favorites is Stuck by Oliver Jeffers. It's about a little boy who tries to get his kite out of a tree by throwing anything he can find at it (including his shoe, a bucket of paint, a whale) and they all get stuck. It's one of my 3 and 6 year old's favorite books! I think it's my favorite, too - I love The Heart In The Bottle as well but I can't read it without crying. Dallas Clayton is another favorite. His Awesome Book of Thanks is on our table right now and I just ordered Lily the Unicorn for Elo's birthday this month." - Jahje Ives, Baby Jives
