Meet BRIKA: Maddie Leznoff

Uncategorized

BRIKA is all about building connections and sharing stories that inspire and delight. While it takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a dedicated team to build an online community — and we thought it was high time you got to know them! So we’ve turned the tables on our BRIKA team and asked them all the same questions we ask our amazing Makers every week.

Having been an only child for the first four-and-a-half years of her life, Maddie had the opportunity to spend plenty of quality time crafting with her mom. This love for DIY was only encouraged by her favorite childhood television show, Art Attack, which inspired many papier-mâché projects — many of which were not successful. Recently, Maddie's creative passions lie more in words and graphics rather than messy crafts, but working at BRIKA has re-ignited that original urge to do-it-herself.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

One visit to the Vancouver Aquarium when I was five years old sparked a love for whales (orcas, in particular) that had me convinced I was going to be a marine biologist. That dream died when I realized I favored English over science, but a whale-watching trip is still first on my bucketlist.

Where did you last go that inspired you?

I visited New York City for the third time this past fall, and finally had the chance to do some solo exploring. Other than shopping, eating, and getting lost in Central Park, I spent hours wandering around the Museum of Modern Art being inspired by not only all the artists and their stories, but also by the architecture of the building itself.

What's your guiltiest pleasure? Häagen-Dazs coffee ice cream. I can eat the whole tub in one sitting.

What five songs do you listen to on repeat?

 1. “Suburban War” - Arcade Fire 2. "Play Crack the Sky" - Brand New 3. “Everything has Changed” - Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran 4. “To Love Somebody” - Ray LaMontagne and Damien Rice 5. “Four Winds" - Bright Eyes What’s on your shopping list right now?

I've been looking for the perfect statement necklace for a while now, and I have my eye on this one by Cursive Design.

What 3 things make you happiest in the world?

A book I can't put down, home-cooked food, and spending time with family and friends.

What won’t you leave the house without?

My iPhone. I can’t get through a day without texting, Instagramming or tweeting, not to mention checking my email.

What’s your favorite…

Dish: My grandma’s blueberry blintzes. It’s a recipe passed down from my great-grandmother.

Drink: A good (and pretty) latte. Footwear: I used to figure skate when I was younger, and to this day I would skate everywhere if I could!

Holiday: Thanksgiving. Great food and spending time with family — what’s not to love?
