about-Alix&OllieAs most brides can attest, choosing your wedding dress can be an experience that varies greatly between emotions of elation and anxiety. To make your hunt for the perfect bridal gown easier, we’ve enlisted the help of Alix Childs, the owner and creative director of Ceremony, to give us the lowdown on 2016’s top five bridal gown trends. Ceremony is an independent bridal boutique in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston that boasts a collection of thoughtfully curated dresses. After her experience bridal gown shopping for her own wedding in 2011, Alix opened the boutique with the philosophy that women should shop for their wedding day as they do for their everyday clothes; at a boutique that reflects their personal style.

1. Cut-out details There's nothing wrong with adding a hint of sexiness into your bridal look, but there’s certainly a fine line between showing just enough skin, and a look that would make your husband-to-be’s grandmother blush. That's why we're so in love with this year's peekaboo panels and cut-out style dresses—a daring hint of skin in just the right places covered by delicate lace or embellishments hits the mark perfectly. 64ca1ce07afca93e84a690b36472c45d 2. Keep it classic and clean Perhaps as a reaction to the beading and sparkle that's stolen the spotlight for the past five years, 2016 has brought a refreshing resurgence of beautifully clean and unembellished gowns. These styles are all about gorgeous fabrics (think buttery silks, crisp satins and flowing organza), an impeccable and flattering cut, and a classic look that will never grow old. Pretty lace jackets, daring crop tops, skirts in every silhouette, overlays to layer over top and bottom—it's all about creating a personalized look that's still thoughtful, polished and true to your style. 5c7ef6949b6715f6f8487beb9ccfad00 4. Capes and watteaus A new twist on the bridal world's obsession with a dramatic back, flowing capes and watteau trains took center stage on the bridal runway this season. Built-in, often detachable, swaths of tulle or lace create almost a hybrid veil/train look for a modern, fashion-forward edge. be9e80f03d7104257b172ac35c09ed57 5. Off-the-shoulder necklines Somewhere between a pretty cap sleeve and a strapless sweetheart lies the perfection of the off-the-shoulder dress. This look gives a bride that certain openness above the collarbone, without having to forfeit the beauty of extra detailing to frame her neck and face. dd80ef1f87d7f86d24248f5492916358
