What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

I always have my Swiss Army knife in my pocket. An absolutely essential tool, it has just about everything I could need in a day...including a toothpick.

Where’s your favorite place to shop?

Wilson Antiques. It’s an old four-story antique store that’s filled with everything from old tools to various mid-century home goods.

What songs do you love to listen to while you work?

I love starting the mornings off with classical guitar or piano music to ease into the day. Midday music usually turns into more upbeat folk music, and if I need a pick-me-up in the afternoon, some good old-fashioned punk rock.

I will do it, but I have an intense fear of flying.

Matt Voight

Following his dad around his woodworking shop when he was a kid must have rubbed off on Matt Voight a lot more than he realized. Without a clear vision of what he wanted to be when he grew up, now that he’s a husband and business owner, Matt knows he’s doing what he was born to do: work with wood.

Matt and his wife Hillary founded Milled Co. with the desire to make simple handcrafted products that they themselves wanted to use. From sketchbook to drafting table to construction, every step of the making process is done with love and attention at their home workshop, exactly where Matt belongs.

"For as long as I can remember, I was in my father's woodshop watching and wanting to get involved."
