Courtney Webb
If you believe everything happens for a reason, you wouldn’t be alone. Courtney Webb was fastidiously working away at an architectural firm when the recession hit and, like so many others, found herself out of a job. But instead of feeling devastated, she actually felt relieved; she’d always wanted to work with her hands and saw this as a sign to exit an unfulfilling career.
Inspired by her two sets of parents who were do-it-yourselfers before “DIY” existed, Courtney began turning vintage fabrics, modern textiles and leather into one-of-a-kind accessories. In the end, her sense of balance and proportion didn’t belong designing houses it belonged making jewelry.
"I have quite a collection of goods handmade by my friends — I look at them differently than other things I own. They are more precious and personal to me and I definitely give them more love and respect."
"Vintage fabrics always have special qualities, and even sometimes stories, whether it’s the texture, pattern or color combinations."
"One of my favorite jobs in high school was making sandwiches at Schlotzky's deli. I always felt guilty that I liked that job more than my early ones as an architect...I am a maker and that is all that I can be!"
